A browser extension only cleans up the browser on the machine holding the extension. Blocking at the network level cleans up everything that joins the hotspot.
Ad requests get stopped as traffic passes through the Windows PC, before any device on the hotspot receives a response. Network-level blocking covers two cases a browser extension cannot reach.
Ads inside apps, which sit outside the browser entirely, and devices you cannot install software on, like a smart TV, a games console or a cheap tablet.
Blocking applies only while a device is connected to the hotspot. A phone that leaves the house and returns to mobile data sees ads again until the phone rejoins the hotspot.

How to turn on Ad Blocking with Connectify Hotspot
Ad blocking is available to clients of a host computer running Connectify Hotspot. So, if you’re sharing your Internet connection via Wi-Fi with other devices, your client devices will experience the Internet without any ads.
To activate the ad blocking feature for the clients connecting to your hotspot, just turn on Block ads in Connectify Hotspot when you start sharing the Internet with your devices. Ad blocking works for every connected device, even in the free version, Connectify Hotspot Lite.
Once it’s on and your hotspot is started, you’ll see the Ad Block stats at the top of the Clients tab. It will show how many ads and ad trackers have been blocked this session, and in all time. These numbers get big fast!
