How to Connect Switch to Hotel WiFi That Needs a Login Page

To connect a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 to hotel WiFi, choose the hotel network under System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings and fill in the sign-in page the console opens. If that page never loads, sign in on your Windows laptop instead and share the laptop’s connection with the Switch over Wi-Fi.

Hotel Wi-Fi usually asks for a room number and a surname on a browser page before a device can get online. Connectify Hotspot lets one Windows laptop do that sign-in and share the connection with the other devices you travelled with.

    A Kindle or a smart speaker has no browser for the login page. Consoles, streaming sticks and handhelds often fail to load it, or lose the connection when the hotel login times out.

Why a Switch Won’t Connect to Hotel WiFi: The Login Page

Most hotel networks use a captive portal: a web page you have to fill in before the network gives you internet access. You type a room number and surname, a code from the front desk, or just accept the terms. Until the page is done, the hotel lets your device join the Wi-Fi but blocks its internet traffic.

The Switch can show these pages, but not every hotel page works on it. When it fails, the console shows one of two messages:

  • Error code 2110-3400. Nintendo says this error means the network likely needs you to sign in through a web browser, which is common on hotel and cafe Wi-Fi.
  • “Registration is required to use this network.” The network wants you to register or sign in before the console can use it.

Nintendo lists both for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch OLED Model, so the steps below apply to all four.

Nintendo’s Steps to Connect Switch and Switch 2 to Hotel WiFi

  1. From the HOME Menu, select System Settings, then Internet > Internet Settings.
  2. Select the hotel’s network and enter its Wi-Fi password if the hotel gave you one.
  3. Fill in the sign-in page when it opens, with the details from the front desk.
  4. If you get error 2110-3400 or “Registration is required”, restart the console and make sure its system software is up to date, then try again.
  5. To update, Nintendo says to connect to a network that doesn’t need a browser sign-in, such as your home network, install the latest system update there, then retry the hotel network.

If the page still fails, Nintendo’s advice is that the network may not be set up correctly or may not support the console, and to contact the network administrator. In a hotel, that means the front desk. The laptop route below gets round the problem without waiting on hotel IT.

How to Connect Switch 2 or Switch to Hotel WiFi Through Your Laptop

The laptop route works because the hotel’s sign-in page only has to be completed once, on the laptop. Connectify Hotspot then shares that signed-in connection as your own Wi-Fi network, and the Switch joins it the same way it joins your network at home. The hotel’s login page never reaches the Switch.

Share Hotel WiFi with Your Switch or Switch 2 in 7 Steps

  1. Connect your laptop to the hotel Wi-Fi and complete the sign-in page in its browser. Open any website to check that you’re online.
  2. Download and install Connectify Hotspot on your 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC.
  3. Open it and choose Wi-Fi hotspot.
  4. Under Internet to share, pick the hotel Wi-Fi connection.
  5. Set a password. Turn on Block ads if you want lighter pages on every device. Lite runs in 60-minute sessions; PRO removes the limit.
  6. Click Start hotspot.
  7. On the Switch, go to System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings, select your Connectify Hotspot network and enter its password. The console tests the connection when it joins.

Set it up at home once. Join the Switch to your Connectify Hotspot before the trip. The console remembers the network name and password, so at each new hotel you only sign in on the laptop and start the hotspot. Keep the same hotspot name and password, or the Switch will need setting up again.

Two more tips for a long session. Hotel sign-ins can expire, so if the Switch suddenly drops offline, check the laptop’s browser for a new sign-in page. On laptops with Modern Standby, Windows stops the hotspot about 10 minutes after the screen turns off, so keep the laptop plugged in with its screen on while you play.

Improve the Switch NAT Type with Free Gaming Mode

NAT type describes how easily other players’ consoles can reach yours. The Switch grades it from A to F when it tests the connection in System Settings > Internet. Nintendo describes Type A as the best for online play and Type F as a network that is restricting communication, so lower grades can stop you joining some matches.

Gaming mode fixes the part of the path that runs through your laptop. The hotel’s own network can still restrict NAT, and no setting on your laptop changes that, so a Type A result is not guaranteed on hotel Wi-Fi. For more fixes, see how to change your NAT type.

Check the Hotel’s Device Terms Before You Share
